Yellow: Less Shortcomings, More Strengths

Writer quoted this line from the great Martin Luther King in his opening speech as the emcee for the Global Bersih 3.0 rally hosted by the prominent Malaysian-Melburnian architect David Teoh, which took place at Federation Square in Melbourne, Australia on April 28, last year.

Established from its parent version Bersih in Malaysia led by prominent lawyer Dato’ Ambiga SreenevasanGlobal Bersih 3.0 is a peaceful, non-partisan movement established by concerned Malaysians of all walks of life across the globe, in showing their love and passion towards their motherland. After the Malaysian general election in 2008, three installations of Bersih rallies (1.0, 2.0 & 3.0) took place in the heart of Kuala Lumpur, the capital city of Malaysia.

The movement’s main objective is to pressure the Election Commission of Malaysia (EC) with 8 demands in ensuring free and fair election based on the Malaysian Constitution, against a series of anecdotal claims of fraudulent electoral system, corruptions and major management inconsistencies and inefficiencies.

I’d seen it, this time, from the end of my row, xanthic, luminous. I stood above it, my firm symbolic fist punched the air like an outraged public servant confronted with an unexpected political mess.

Don’t allow yourselves to be disheartened by one man’s voice. We know who we are and what we are capable of.

We know, after so many examples around us, what are the supposedly right and wrong actions and consequences. More importantly, we learned about things that should be avoided or to be apprehended, and also things that are totally absurd.

We should realise about this before we start becoming them, mirroring their bad attributes, thinking and all the kinds of mediocrities from which we have been trying to break free. I personally wish that may they live long enough to see the change we will bring to this country, to the new ‘us’.

All of you who can see this are brilliant, beautiful and and talented. Please, don’t waste these gifts, as well as your precious time and energy. Channel it to the right place.

We are the products of our parents’ generation. Just like how we think of them, hence things will be soon enough, back to us.
